WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- The discovery of human body parts in a garbage bin in Winnipeg, Manitoba, led to the arrest of a man for the slaying of his roommate, police said.

City police said Wednesday Emery Miles McLeod, 38, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Darren Robert Monias, 42, and was being held at the Provincial Remand Center, the Winnipeg Free Press reported.

Police confirmed the homicide investigation was launched Monday morning by "suspicious circumstances" at a garbage bin outside a business. The newspaper said a homeless man came across the remains while collecting bottles and cans, and an employee of the business said Tuesday he saw "fingers."
