Death toll from plant blast rises to 13

ANSHAN, China, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The death toll from an explosion at a state-owned steel plant in northeast China rose to 13, local authorities and rescuers said Tuesday.

Rescuers were searching for a worker still missing after Monday's explosion in a steel-casting workshop owned by Angang Heavy Machinery Co. Ltd. in Anshan in Liaoning province, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.

Ten bodies were found early Tuesday then rescuers recovered the bodies of three other workers who had been listed as missing, a statement issued by the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China said.

Seventeen people injured in the blast were treated at an area hospital, the statement said.
