Suspect sought in shooting of two mounties

EDMONTON, Alberta, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Canadian authorities said they were searching Wednesday for a man wanted in an incident that left two mounties wounded and another man dead.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they were looking for Sawyer Clarke Robison, 27, who they described as armed and dangerous, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The RCMP said Robison was considered a person of interest in the Tuesday afternoon shootings at a farm near Killam, Alberta.

"It would be in Robison's best interests to call the nearest RCMP detachment as soon as possible to make arrangements to speak with the investigators," RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb said.

"We have nothing to indicate this individual is any threat to any member of the community in general. He's more of a threat to RCMP members … to any authority figure or law enforcement."

The two injured mounties, Constables Sheldon Shah and Sidney Gaudette of the Killam detachment, were recovering from their bullet wounds, the CBC said.

The identity of the dead man, who appeared to have been shot, had not been ascertained, RCMP officials said.

The wounded officers had been executing a search warrant for weapons on the farm about 100 miles southeast of Edmonton when they were shot, the Edmonton Journal reported.

The CBC said an acquaintance,Vern Snethun, said Robison is the deceased man's nephew and lived with him on the farm with other family members. Snethun said the men "wouldn't hurt a flea."

"They lived their own life, they didn't bother anybody and they didn't range too far away from home and just minded their own business. Were good guys," Snethun said.

Police recovered several weapons in the home, the CBC said.

Robison is described as 6-foot-2 and about 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was likely driving a black 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with Alberta licence plate number UZE 545.

In March 2005, four Mounties were ambushed and gunned down at a farm in Mayerthorpe, Alberta.
