OSLO, Norway, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The man who confessed to killing 77 people in a 2011 gun and bomb rampage in Norway appeared in court Monday for his last remand hearing before his trial.
Anders Breivik, wearing a dark suit and handcuffs, allowed himself to be photographed as he was led into court for a hearing on whether he should remain jailed until his trial begins in April, Views and News from Norway reported. It was the first time cameras were allowed in the courtroom.
The court ruled Breivik will be held for at least 10 more weeks.
Survivors and relatives of the victims of the July 22 massacre -- a bombing in downtown Oslo and a shooting spree at a Labor Party youth camp on nearby Utoya Island -- attending the hearing in Oslo's district court.
Breivik has admitted he carried out the massacre but has denied criminal guilt. He said he is a commander of a militant organization that has the goal of overthrowing European governments and replacing them with regimes that would deport Muslim immigrants.
Breivik was allowed to speak for a minute, during which time he said he didn't recognize the Norwegian legal system and demanded to be released, NRK reported. He also said his mission was to attack "traitors" who are allowing an "Islamic colonization" of Norway.
