NOTTINGHAM, England, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 39 months in jail for encouraging others to take part in riots in Nottingham, England.
Sam Lowe of Sneinton previously pleaded guilty to charges of encouraging violent disorder, Sky News reported.
Prosecutors said Lowe sent text messages to 160 people to join riots in the city center.
"Girls, grannies, mums, dads, lads, grandads -- everyone meet on Sneinton Dale tonight at 9 o'clock as we are all going to kick off ... come with bricks," a message to the 21-year-old's friends said during the August riots.
Lowe was given the maximum sentence given his guilty plea.
The presiding judge acknowledged Lowe's previous community work and had been given a volunteer of the year award, but said, "What you did, potentially, you took a large amount away from your community."
