Call to invest more in women's welfare

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland to invest in women's health and education.

At an event organized by the Every Woman Every Child initiative Thursday, Ban called on business leaders to give more to women's causes.

The initiative, launched in 2010, is a global effort to save the lives of 16 million women and children and improving the lives of millions more.

"The business community can help. Your partnership is crucial in preventing unnecessary suffering for women and girls everywhere," he said.

Ban called for greater investment in prenatal care and education as well as the global fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
