BELGRADE, Senegal, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Serbian police are investigating an assassination warning that came from a Serbian man in the United States, sources have told a Belgrade newspaper.

The newspaper said a text message that the assassination of top state officials was being planned was sent to a high-level official of the Serbian Interior Ministry, Radio B-92 reported Tuesday.

The man who sent it was identified as Vuk Jovanovic of the United States.

Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and the secretary of the Ministry of Justice said that security services were working at full capacity to protect top state officials.

Among those mentioned in the assassination warning were President Boris Tadic, the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the interior minister and the director of police.
