NAPLES, Italy, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Italian police say they seized more than $83 million worth of assets Tuesday from the Camorra's violent Casalesi clan.
The Italian news agency ANSA said the police operation focused on a jailed businessmen and two Casalesi members, including the brother of jailed leader Michele Zagaria.
The Naples mafia has been in the midst of a power struggle after the arrest last month of Zagaria, who had been on the run 16 years.
Writer Roberto Saviano, who exposed the violent Casalesi clan in his 2006 bestseller Gomorrah, later turned into a film, has been living under 24-hour police protection as a result of death threats from Zagaria and other bosses.
In another mafia raid Tuesday, police said they seized concert-production businesses in Rome and a three-story villa.
The assets, worth more than $7.5 million, were linked to the Calabria-based 'Ndrangheta crime group, authorities said.
