Scattered fighting reported in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A Taliban commander was among three prisoners taken by Afghan troops during operations in Paktika province, the government announced Sunday.

The Ministry of Defense told reporters that at least three militants died in the fighting and a small amount of guns and ammunition was seized.

Similar seizures were made in Kandahar and Helmand provinces were an Afghan army brigade was in action, sources told Khaama Press.

Afghan losses were limited to just one soldier killed in action.

There was no word on any involvement in the fighting by U.S. or other NATO troops.
