MONTREAL, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Thirty new names were added to Canada's list of those most wanted for deportation Wednesday, two federal ministers announced in Montreal and Toronto.
The third revision to the list that began in July now has 42 names, photos and criminal histories of known criminals being sought for deportation, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
In Montreal, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said since the list was made public, 225 calls from the public have helped locate 15 wanted people in Canada and four abroad and seven deportations have been carried out.
At a Toronto news conference, Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said in the past 24 hours, a Sri Lankan man who had been on the list and wanted since 2006 was arrested in Toronto, the National Post reported.
"The message we are hearing is that the time has come to put our feet down and end the abuse of our immigration system," Toews said.
The Canada Border Services Agency maintains the Web site, which initially focused on war crimes perpetrators. The list has expanded to include all criminals, the CBC said.
