Jan. 9, 2012 at 4:37 PM

BAGHDAD, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Two car bombs went off in Baghdad Monday, killing at least 15 people and wounding dozens of others, authorities said.

A third car bomb, which exploded on the outskirts of Hilla, injured 15 Afghan pilgrims, Iran's Press TV reported.

Iraqi security sources said one of the Baghdad bombs killed seven people and injured 19 others when it detonated near a police vehicle in the capital's al-Shaab neighborhood. The network said the other blast, which occurred about a half-hour earlier in the al-Muwasalat neighborhood, claimed eight lives and injured more than 25.

Press TV said the bombings targeted police officers and Shiite pilgrims traveling to the holy city of Karbala.
