American skier dies in B.C. avalanche

GOLDEN, British Columbia, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A skier from the United States died in an avalanche in British Columbia, officials said.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police said several skiers were caught in the avalanche in Golden, British Columbia, Friday afternoon, CBC News reported.

"One person [was] buried," Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said. "The person was dug out by members of the ski party."

Moskaluk said the fatally injured skier had no pulse when the other skiers reached him. Attempts to revive him continued as he was airlifted to Golden General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The skiers were from the United States, Moskaluk said. No names had been released.
