Prosecutors said there was no evidence that leaders of the Grand National Party or top government officials were involved in the cyberattacks on the Web sites of the National Election Commission and candidate Park Won-Soon, the Yonhap News Service said. Park, the leading liberal candidate, won even though his Web site was down for 2 hours the morning of the election.
Investigators found a former secretary to National Assembly Speaker Park Hee-tae paid $8,600 to the company that carried out the hacking. A former aide to Choi Ku-sik, a legislator with the GNP, allegedly served as a go-between.
