Israel expels West Bank extremists

JERUSALEM, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- The Israeli military expelled 12 right-wing Jewish extremists from the West Bank for allegedly orchestrating violent attacks, officials said.

Temporary restraining orders were issued overnight to residents of Yitzhar, Havat Gilad, Elon Moreh and Ramat Migron, Haaretz reported Thursday. The extremists were allegedly involved in attacks against Palestinian residents and Israeli security forces.

A statement released by the Israeli military said the orders were meant to pre-emptively neutralize the security threat posed by the activists, the newspaper said.

Haaretz reported earlier this week that Israeli prosecutors intend to indict eight right-wing activists for allegedly tracking Israeli military activities in the West Bank in an attempt to disrupt the demolition of illegal Jewish outposts.
