Skier fatally injured at Canadian resort

CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- A skier has died of injuries he sustained when he hit a tree on the slopes at Nakiska Mountain Resort in Alberta province, authorities said.

The man, who was in his 50s, was critically injured Monday afternoon and died after being airlifted to a Calgary hospital, said Cam Heke of STARS air ambulance.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Tuesday the victim was Rocky View County Deputy Reeve Rick Butler, who had been skiing with his two daughters when he crashed into the tree.
