Bank cash stolen, replaced with fake bills

MOSCOW, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- More than $700,000 cash has been stolen from a Moscow bank and replaced with bogus bills, a police source said Tuesday.

The source told RIA Novosti employees at the northeast Moscow bank discovered Monday that thousands of fake ruble, dollar and euro bills had replaced $707,000 cash in the bank's vault.

Authorities have opened a criminal case in the robbery, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Also Monday, three men armed with a pistol and an ax robbed a bank in the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad of more than $82,000, a police spokesman said.
