Iran adds second destroyer to navy

TEHRAN, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Iran is constructing its second modern warship -- a destroyer -- to add to the country's fleet, Iranian Navy commander Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari said.

The ship, called "Jamaran-2," will be capable of defending against airstrikes, as well as surface and underwater attacks, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported Sunday

Jamaran-2 is also be equipped to carry and fuel helicopters, the commander said.

Sayyari also noted that Jamaran-1 destroyer is present at the "Velayat-90" training exercises off the coast of southern Iran for 10 days.
