Dr. Francisco Ossandon, the chief surgeon, said the children of Jessica Navarrete and Roberto Paredes, Maria Paz and Maria Jose, were in stable condition.

The Web site said the separation procedure was the seventh operation the twins have faced and they will require additional surgery in the future to ensure their survival.
