Colombian bishop criticizes gay adoption

BOGOTA, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A leading Colombian bishop has criticized a court decision allowing a gay American journalist to adopt two Colombian boys.

Bishop Juan Vincente Cordoba hinted in an interview with the Spanish-language newspaper El Tiempo Tuesday the journalist could possibly become attracted to his adopted children.

"I am not accusing him of anything," Cordoba said. "But one thing is clear and that is that he has homosexual tendencies ... and he will receive two children at an age when they may be attractive to him, which could be a temptation."

Chandler Burr's adoption of the two boys, ages 10 and 13, was formalized in March but the children were removed from his care after he admitted he was gay, Colombia Reports said Wednesday.

Burr and the children underwent psychological tests and the boys indicated no opposition to his sexual orientation.

A Colombian judge finally ruled that Burr could take the boys to the United States.
