RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A Saudi Arabian woman was beheaded after being convicted of "practicing witchcraft and sorcery," officials said in a statement.
Amina bint Abdulhalim Nassar became the 73rd person to be executed in Saudi Arabia this year, Bikyamasr.com reported Monday.
Nassar's death sparked outrage throughout the conservative Muslim country, as well as international human rights groups.
Human rights groups have condemned Saudi Arabia for its use of the death penalty, and what they call "archaic" and "inhumane" means of killing convicted murderers.
"It is wrong and disgusting to kill anyone in this way," said an activist in the country. He told Bikyamasr.com that "doing this just gets people thinking we live in the Dark Ages."
The woman's beheading comes after nine Bangladeshis were executed recently in the country and two Saudi men were put to death for after being convicted of murder charges.
