Man suspected of killing landlady, mother

LIVERPOOL, England, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A man suspected of killing his landlady and her elderly mother may be trying to get to Spain, English police said Monday.

A witness reported seeing Barry Morrow, 51, in Calais late Saturday, The Independent reported. The bodies of Angela Holgate, 54, and Alice Huyton, 75, were found Saturday earlier in Holgate's home in Southport near Liverpool.

Chief Superintendent Nikki Holland of the Merseyside Police said Holgate had apparently been dead several days, The Daily Telegraph said.

"The indication is that Angela has been dead longer than Alice," Holland said. "She hadn't spoken to her daughter for a week."

Morrow is believed to have left the Liverpool area in Holton's white Citroen, the report said. About 90 minutes before he was spotted in Calais, Colin Hyde, Holgate's son-in-law, found the bodies.

Investigators said Holgate and Huyton were both killed by asphyxiation. Huyton, who also lived in Southport, was last seen Friday evening heading to her daughter's home.

Morrow admitted assaulting a woman last year in Southport, police said.
