S. Korean officials to visit N. Korea

JONGJU, North Korea, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- South Korean officials traveled to North Korea Friday to ensure recent food aid from Seoul reached its intended beneficiaries.

A Unification Ministry official and four civilians are scheduled to visit a day care center and two other child care facilities in the northwestern city of Jongju to monitor how 300 tons of flour was distributed in the area, Yonhap News Agency reported.

South Korean officials believe the North may try to divert the food to its elite and military personnel.

The trip comes a day after North Korea threatened to make South Korea's presidential office "a sea of fire" after Seoul performed military maneuvers near the sea border.

The military operation was timed to mark the first anniversary of the North's attack on South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island that killed two marines and two civilians.

Ambassadors for Peace Association, a civic group that is partly funded by the Unification Group, donated the flour to Jongju, the birthplace of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church.

This is the first time North Korea has allowed South Korean officials into the country since 2008.
