23 bodies found near Guadalajara monument

MEXICO CITY, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- The bodies of at least 23 men were found in three vehicles near a prominent monument in Guadalajara, Mexico, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Mexican media reports said the bodies were found at the traffic circle near the 150-foot Arches of the Third Millennium monument in the city in western Mexico, the Times said.

Authorities in Jalisco state confirmed human remains were found in 23 black bags at the site.

State prosecutor Tomas Coronado said a message was left on a folded banner at the scene, but he did not provide details.

Drug violence between rival gangs has been prevalent in Jalisco state in recent months. Gov. Emilio Gonzalez said via Twitter he was "dismayed and outraged" by the body dumping.
