5.9-magnitude quake shakes Myanmar

NAYPYITAW, Myanmar, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A 5.9-magnitude earthquake rocked Myanmar and eastern parts of India early Monday, seismologists said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake, at a depth of 6.8 miles, struck at 9:45 a.m. 138 miles west-southwest of Myitkyina in Myanmar (formerly called Burma) and 563 miles north Yangon (formerly Rangoon).

The Times of India reported the quake was felt in the Indian states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur and in Bangladesh.
