VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Vancouver, B.C., Mayor Gregor Robertson won a second term and the Green Party captured its first city council seat in this weekend's municipal elections.
Robertson, representing the Vision Vancouver party, was re-elected by a comfortable margin over the Non-Partisan Association's Suzanne Anton.
"Vision Vancouver is all about bringing the people of this city together to do great things, and tonight we've done just that," Robertson told his supporters. "It has been a real privilege to serve as your mayor, and I'm humbled to have that honor for three more years."
The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said Robertson survived a tumultuous year in Vancouver, which included an outbreak of rioting after the Stanley Cup hockey championships, and the establishment of an Occupy Vancouver camp.
The NPA ended the day with two seats on the city council. Vision Vancouver tallied seven seats and the Green Party won a seat for the first time.
