Egyptian state television Web site hacked

CAIRO, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- An Egyptian activist group calling itself Eg-TeAm-R1z hacked the Web site of Egypt's state television, officials say.

The Web site has been replaced with a picture of the Egyptian flag on a wall, captioned in L337 speak, an online symbolic language also known as H4XX0R, Bikyamasr.com reported.

The message left on the television's site is "a simple response to your hypocrisy, all we ask is that you transmit the truth."

Egyptian media is ranked 143 of 167 in terms of media freedom, a 2005 report from Reporters Without Borders said.

The Saturday hack came after protest erupted in Cairo's Tahrir Square Friday. Thousands of demonstrators packed the square Friday, Saturday and Sunday to protest the military's involvement in government.
