N. Korean spy caught in S. Korea

SEOUL, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- An alleged North Korean spy was arrested in South Korea after claiming to be a defector, security authorities said Saturday.

The man was identified as a member of the North's Military Security Command after a routine investigation of newly arrived defectors, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Authorities said man entered South Korea in April by way of China, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand, in an effort to appear as a defector looking to resettle in the country.

"But he did not engage in any actual spying activity because he continuously underwent questioning after coming to the country," a spy agency official said. "He has received no detailed instruction from the North, yet."

Authorities said they will continue their investigation on the man, as it is highly likely that he has connections to other North Korean spies posing as defectors in South Korea.
