Arizonan found among homeless in Ukraine

CHERNOVTSY, Ukraine, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Volunteers with a homeless shelter in Ukraine said they discovered a one-time write-in candidate for governor of Arizona stranded in the city of Chernovtsy.

Chris Dolego was in a crowd of homeless people at the train station, the news agency UNIAN reported. Volunteers with the "People's Help" shelter said he was dressed in a business suit and carrying a personal computer.

Dolego, 53, ran as a write-in candidate for governor of Arizona in 2010, Phoenix New Times reported. He ran under the banner of the Green Party, which also had a nominee on its regular ballot line.

On a party questionnaire, Dolego said he was a divorced father of three and had gone to work for Wells Fargo after 15 years with the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

Dolego, who has been in Ukraine since May, gave two reasons for his trip, UNIAN reported. He said he hoped to interest officials in Sevastopol in his ideas for sea and air safety. But he said he also hoped to marry a woman named Yulia, a surgeon in Chernovtsy he met online.

Dolego said he ran out of money and was evicted from an apartment and then decided to go to Chernovtsy in hopes that Yulia could help him straighten out his affairs.
