MONROVIA, Liberia, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Liberian presidential nominee Winston Tubman said he will not take part in next week's presidential runoff election.
Winston Tubman, the opposition candidate against incumbent Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, said he will not participate in the runoff election and accused Sirleaf of trying to reinstate a one-party state, the BBC reported Saturday.
"We will never reward fraud and abuse of power and will never grant legitimacy to a corrupt political process," Tubman said in Monrovia.
Tubman's Congress for Democratic Change Party alleged widespread fraud in last month's first round of the presidential elections even though international observers say the race was peaceful and transparent. Tubman called for a peaceful protest Saturday and for his supporters to boycott next week's vote.
"Mr. Winston Tubman has called on Liberians to give up their franchise, their right to vote. He has called people to violate the constitution," Sirleaf said.
Liberia's election commission has urged Tubman not to pull out of the race, warning a boycott could risk destabilizing the country.
