12 Swedes arrested in porn sting

Oct. 19, 2011 at 9:50 AM

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Police in Sweden arrested 12 people Wednesday on suspicion of spreading child pornography, Sweden's National Bureau of Investigation said.

The raids were carried out between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. local time throughout the country, the Swedish news agency TT reported.

In addition to arresting 11 men and one woman, police seized computers and hard drives during the raids.

Authorities targeted the suspects after they shared child-related pornography on a file-sharing site.

The National Bureau of Investigation said the operation was coordinated with 25 other European countries.

"The intelligence gathering has been carried out in Europe," said Bjorn Sellstrom of the child pornography unit. "We received information of IP-addresses, times and material."

Sellstrom said he wasn't sure how much material authorities will find on the computers they seized.

"From experience I'd say that it could encompass hundreds of thousands of images," he said.
