Parliament to question ex-Murdoch exec.

LONDON, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Les Hinton, former right-hand man to Rupert Murdoch, is to be questioned again by members of Parliament on phone hacking by the now-defunct News of the World.

The testimony, scheduled for Oct. 24 via a video link from the United States, will be Hinton's third time before the culture, media and sport select committee, The (London) Guardian reported Tuesday.

Hinton was executive chairman of the British arm of Murdoch's News Corp., News International, from 1995 to 2007.

In March 2007, he told members of Parliament he believed reporter Clive Goodman acted alone in a phone hacking scandal. In September 2009, when more widespread allegations of phone hacking surfaced, Hinton said he saw no evidence to support that.

He said despite "hundreds of news reports of both actual and alleged misconduct during the time I was executive chairman of News International," he was "ignorant of what apparently happened."

Hinton was chief executive of Dow Jones when News Corp. bought the company, but resigned from the position amid the scandal.
