Report: Some Israel inmate demands met

JERUSALEM, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A hunger strike by Palestinian inmates at Israeli prisons may be coming to an end after officials agreed to some of their demands, the prisoners said Sunday.

Prison officials agreed to a list of demands that included looser visiting rules, satellite television broadcasts and whole chickens for dinner rather than chopped-up birds.

Detainees told the Palestinian news agency Ma'an Sunday that the administration refused to give in on demands to end prisoner isolation or raise detainee allowances to more than 300 shekels ($80.68). But a hearing will be held to discuss the demands further.

An unknown number of Palestinians in Israeli jails refused food 13 days ago to protest conditions. Ma'an said about 6,000 Palestinians are locked up in Israel.
