Panel upholds Rwandan genocide sentences

ARUSHA, Tanzania, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- A U.N. war crimes tribunal for Rwanda upheld 25-year jail terms given two people for genocide in the slaughter of 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus in 1994.

The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda's appellate division dismissed the appeal by Lt. Col. Ephrem Setako, upholding his genocide conviction for ordering the April 25, 1994, killings of 30 to 40 Tutsis at a military camp and at least 10 other Tutsis on May 11, the United Nations said in a release.

The Rwandan Genocide was the 1994 killing of an estimated 800,000 people in about 100 days.
