ACAPULCO, Mexico, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Mexican police found five severed heads in the Pacific coast city of Acapulco, where five decapitated bodies were discovered earlier this week, officials said.
Mexican state police said the heads were found Tuesday in a sack in front of a primary school, along with a handwritten message threatening three local drug traffickers, Radio Santa Fe reported.
Police removed the remains and cordoned off the location after young students and pedestrians saw the heads, which appeared to be men, in full view, officials said.
Police found five decapitated bodies in and around a burned pickup truck Monday. The bodies were too badly burned to determine their gender.
Officials have not determined whether the heads belonged to the decapitated bodies or if the crimes were related.
About 40,000 people have been killed in Mexico since December 2006, when President Felipe Calderon declared war on the country's drug cartels.
