Police officer killed in terror bombing

MAKHACHKALA, Russia, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- One police officer was killed and 61 people were injured in a double terrorist bombing in Russia, officials say.

The first car bomb went off late Wednesday in Makhachkala in Dagestan, RIA Novosti reported.

The second, more powerful, blast came after police arrived on the scene, killing one officer and injuring 44 police and 17 civilians. Three people were hospitalized in critical condition.

Buinaksk district police chief Akhmadnabi Adilkhanov's car came under fire early Thursday, ITAR-Tass reported.

Adilkhanov was driving to his office at the time, on the outskirts of the district.

The police chief was not injured but two security guards were killed.
