PARIS, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Lawyers for the New York hotel housekeeper who says she was raped by Dominique Strauss-Kahn says he should be forced to answer "pointed questions."
Strauss-Kahn, who resigned as head of the International Monetary Fund after his arrest, is scheduled to be interviewed on French TV Sunday, Radio France Internationale reported. But Kenneth Thompson and Douglas Wigdor, who represent Nafissatou Diallo, dismiss the interview because the questions will be asked by a close friend of Strauss-Kahn's wife.
Before his arrest, Strauss-Kahn was expected to be a candidate for president of France. French citizens "deserve to hear Mr. Strauss-Kahn answer pointed questions about his conduct on May 14," the lawyers said in a statement.
Criminal charges have been dropped in New York, but Diallo has filed a civil lawsuit. A judge in New York extended the deadline for the response from Strauss-Kahn's lawyer because he was, until recently, more involved in fighting the criminal case.
In France, prosecutors are investigating a charge by Trastane Banon, a writer, that Strauss-Kahn attempted to rape her while she was interviewing him. She described him as behaving like a "rutting chimpanzee," Britain's The Daily Telegraph reported.
Strauss-Kahn, 62, has said he had consensual sex with Diallo and tried to kiss Banon but made no attempt to rape her.
