CAIRO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Some lawyers representing victims' families withdrew from the trial of ousted Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak at Cairo's Police Academy Wednesday.

The attorneys along with a former head of the bar association said they were leaving because of chaotic conditions inside the courtroom, al-Masry al-Youm reported.

Judge Ahmed Refaat initially refused to enter the courtroom because lawyers inside were chanting anti-Mubarak slogans.

Mubarak, 83, is on trial on charges of ordering the killing of protesters to quash the January uprising that ended his 30-year rule.

Amnesty International said some 840 people died and more than 6,000 were wounded during the 18-day rebellion.

The former Egyptian leader also faces corruption charges along with his two sons, Gamal and Alaa.

Riot police were on hand to prevent a repeat of Monday's clashes between anti-Mubarak and pro-Mubarak supporters.

Witnesses said Wednesday's group was mainly composed of anti-Mubarak demonstrators.
