RAMALLAH, West Bank, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Palestinians, in anticipation of receiving statehood recognition, say they've built a wooden chair they plan to send to the United Nations.
The Palestinian leadership plans to submit a statehood bid next month.
"As the U.N. seat was a demand to represent Palestine as a state, we ourselves decided to send the seat of Palestine to the U.N.," Sufian al-Qawasmi, an engineer from Ramallah, told the Ma'an news agency Tuesday.
He said 35 men from Jenin built the olive wood chair clad in blue cloth woven in Hebron, the report said.
The chair took 48 hours to build, representing the year 1948 when Israel was established and Palestinians were forced from their homes, he said.
The chair was designed to fit in a suitcase, al-Qawasmi said.
A delegation will take the chair to Qatar, Lebanon Russia, France, Britain, Brussels, Spain and Brazil before it reaches the United Nations in New York, the news agency said.
