ZHUKOVSKY, Russia, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- A cutting-edge Russian fighter jet aborted its takeoff at an air show Sunday due to an unspecified mechanical problem, officials said.

The Sukhoi T-50 experienced an apparent engine malfunction on the runway of the MAKS-2011 International Aviation and Space Show and rolled to a stop with the help of a drag chute.

The RIA Novosti news agency said the pilot was not hurt and there was no fire or crash.

The T-50 is scheduled to being active-duty service in 2015, RIA Novosti said.
