1 dead, 5 wounded at Canada casino

KELOWNA, British Columbia, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Gunfire outside a casino in Kelowna, British Columbia, Sunday left a suspected gang member dead and five other people wounded, police said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said it was hunting for at least one gunman in a sport utility vehicle who opened fire on another vehicle leaving the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Center just before 3 p.m., QMI Agency reported.

The news agency said an ambulance service spokesman said six victims were taken to a hospital and RCMP Constable Steve Holmes confirmed one man had died.

The Province in Vancouver reported it had learned the dead man was reputed gang member Jonathan Bacon, who was to stand trial this fall on weapons and drug charges.

The newspaper said the wounded included Hells Angels member Larry Amero of White Rock, who was seriously injured, and a niece of a member of the biker gang who was shot in the leg.

The Province said the Hells Angels and a splinter group of Red Scorpions allegedly had been meeting in the area.

Bacon and his brothers Jamie and Jarrod are suspected in a string of crimes in the region. Jamie Bacon is in custody awaiting trial for murder in the Surrey Six shootings.
