Police bust forced prostitution ring

XIAMEN, China, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Chinese authorities arrested six suspects and freed 22 women who were forced to become sex workers in the south China city of Xiamen, officials said.

Police raided the parlor in downtown Xiamen Saturday after receiving a tip by two abducted women who escaped from the rented house, Xinhua reported Sunday.

Officials said the women were lured to the city with the promise of jobs, but when they arrived, the suspects "used all sorts of methods" in forcing them to work in the sex trade.

Police freed the women, some of whom allegedly were abducted from other parts of Fujian, Henan and Sichuan provinces, and the town of Chongqing.

Investigators said the women's plight isn't that uncommon in China, as young people leaving their rural homes for jobs in busy cities become easy prey for human trafficking rings.
