MOSCOW, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Russia's Foreign Ministry has appealed for help to prevent a possible attempt by Pristina to regain control over Serb-populated regions of Kosovo.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich called on the European Union, NATO and the United Nations, all with offices in the region, to step in, Serbia's Tanjug news agency reported.
"Unfortunately, it is very likely that despite the Aug. 5 agreements to refrain from military actions, Pristina might be tempted to regain control over the Serb population in Kosovo by force," said Lukashevich.
Last month violence on the Kosovo-Serbian border left a police officer dead.
Fighting broke out after the government in Pristina ordered special forces to set up border check points in the mostly Serb-populated regions in the north to enforce a recent trade embargo with Serbia.
