Colombian government Web sites shut down

BOGOTA, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Several Colombian government agency Web sites were shut down by online activist group Anonymous in its ongoing AntiSec campaign, officials said.

AntiSec is the name given to an ongoing international online campaign against government secrecy.

Colombian intelligence service DAS, the interior and justice ministries and the Colombian president's Web sites were temporarily disconnected after the group attacked the agencies' main portal, El Espectador reported Tuesday.

The attack was meant as a protest against government censorship, the hacker group's Twitter page said. The shutdown started Tuesday morning and lasted until the evening.

Several hacker groups have planned cyber attacks against the Peruvian, Colombian and Philippines governments, calling it "Operation Defense."

The group hacked into Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos' Facebook page July 20, leaving a link to a video titled "False Independence," as Colombia marked its 201st year of independence.

Anonymous made headlines last year when it targeted MasterCard and Visa for stopping payments to WikiLeaks.
