KAMLOOPS, British Columbia, July 25 (UPI) -- The mayor of Surrey, British Columbia, is hospitalized with fractured vertebrae after a horse-riding accident while vacationing with her family, officials say.

Dianne Watts was airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops after the Saturday mishap where she remained in stable condition, The (Vancouver) Province reported.

The popular mayor had been on a weekend trip with her husband and two daughters at a friend's cabin in Kamloops when she got hurt, the newspaper said.

The accident was the second time Watts was injured since elected mayor of Surrey, about 20 miles southeast of Vancouver.

In April 2010 she suffered cracked ribs and bruising when her vehicle was hit by another in a South Surrey intersection.

Watts won't be back at city hall until at least the end of the week at the earliest, said Marvin Hunt, a member of the city council, noting that council is about to break for the summer.
