MUMBAI, July 19 (UPI) -- A 34-year-old man who suffered severe burns in the triple explosions in Mumbai has died, raising the death toll from the blasts to 20, Indian authorities said.

The man, a father of three including his recently born daughter, died Tuesday at the J.J. Hospital in Mumbai, the Times of India reported.

"He sustained 54 percent external burns and internal burns as well. He also had a serious chest injury. Shrapnel were lodged in his abdomen (surgeons removed the shrapnel). He died of multi-organ failure," the dean of the hospital was quoted as saying.

The victim was the only wage-earning member of the family, the report said.

Federal and state investigation agencies have initiated a massive country-wide investigation to capture those responsible for the blasts, which occurred July 13 during the evening rush hour within minutes of one another at three crowded locations in India's financial capital.

Mumbai has suffered several such attacks in the past, the worst in November 2008 when 10 terrorists spanned across the city and laid siege to the city for three days, leaving more than 160 people dead before it ended. India has said that attack was masterminded by terror groups based in Pakistan.

The latest blasts also injured dozens of people, several of them critically.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the latest blasts but the Times of India reported new leads point to the involvement of a domestic group called the Indian mujahedin. A few suspects have been detained.
