Police said a witness saw someone use a flammable substance to ignite the rooming house fire early Saturday, the CBC said.

Authorities said the fire likely started near the front entrance, possibly on the veranda, blocking an escape route.

Police said Flett knew someone living at the rooming house, which was often home to people with addictions, the network said.

The names of the three men and woman who died and two men injured had not been released.
