Yingluck says she is only PM candidate

BANGKOK, July 14 (UPI) -- Yingluck Shinawatra, Thailand's prime minister in waiting, said Thursday she is not worried about the Election Commission's failure to certify her.

She pointed out that the commission has until Aug. 3 to act on the results of the recent parliamentary election, the Bangkok Post reported. Parliament cannot convene until the EC certifies the results in at least 95 percent of the districts.

Yingluck, sister of exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, said the Pheu Thai party has no fallback plan if she is not certified. She denied reports that the party is prepared to make Yongyuth Wichaidit, a party leader and No. 2 on its electoral list, prime minister.

Pheu Thai won an outright majority in the election and has since gained the backing of some smaller parties. It now has more than 300 seats in the 500-member parliament.

Complaints have been made to the commission that Pheu Thai got active support from people now banned from politics, including Thaksin and former Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat and his wife.
