MANAMA, Bahrain, July 14 (UPI) -- Bahrain has released a 20-year-old woman who was sentenced to a year in prison for reading a poem critical of the government, officials said.
Ayat Al Qermezi was released Wednesday and allowed to go home, a military prosecutor told Gulf News.

The National Safety Court of First Instance ordered her release after a request from her lawyer, Yusef Al Flaifal. A regular court will now review the case.
Qermezi appealed her sentence after she was found guilty of inciting hatred of the Bahrain government, and of being involved in a rally to commit crimes.
The case drew international attention when it was falsely reported Qermezi had died after allegedly being raped several times while in custody.
