Iraqi legislators want U.S. troops out

BAGHDAD, July 4 (UPI) -- A member of the Iraqi Parliament says 100 legislators have called on the government to demand the departure of U.S. forces from the country.

"The legislators have signed 100 signatures, calling on the government to demand the departure of the U.S. occupation forces, in compliance with the security agreement signed between Baghdad and Washington," Uday Awad of the al-Ahrar (Liberals) Bloc told the Aswat al-Iraq news agency Monday.

His al-Ahrar bloc remains opposed to the U.S. forces, rejecting their presence in Iraq, he said.

Awad demanded the "other political blocs and Parliament members to take a similar attitude, and to demand the departure of the American occupation forces from Iraq and the imposition of sovereignty and independence of the country, without any foreign existence."
