Jordan Cabinet is switched during protests

AMMAN, Jordan, July 3 (UPI) -- In an attempt to quell anti-government protesters, Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit rearranged his Cabinet members, officials say.

Eleven new ministers were sworn in by royal decree from King Abdullah II Saturday, the official Jordanian news agency Petra reported.

The king replaced former Prime Minister Samir Rifai with Bakhit in February in response to protesters' demands. Since then, three of Bakhit's Cabinet members resigned because of constant anti-government protesting.

The protesters, however, will not be happy until Bakhit and the current Parliament are gone and replaced with a democratic government, Iran's Press TV said.

"Reform is demanded by the public and a crucial passage for survival. The regime must meet such demands and start genuine reform measures, not only cosmetic measures," Muslim Brotherhood leader Zai Bani said last week.
